My net connection was down this evening, and I felt like a break from debugging StepMania. I remembered an app called ddclient which had been mentioned in #linux for automatically updating DNS entries. I'd downloaded it, but never bothered to set it up. What better time to set it up than when my net connection was down, and would likely come up with a different IP. Long story short, it works. I've got it monitoring the local interface for IP changes every 5 minutes and updating my DNS records as necessary. It's fast, seems to have a reasonable amount of debug output (but under normal operation is nicely terse), and looks powerful enough to suit most setups. Now all I need to do is fix up the MTA on my server so I can be emailed when my IP changes.
