On ranting about how there's no Wikipedia article on Stoneface & Terminal (not even in German), I came across the topic of dead malls.

The hook came in this sentence: the mall had stood vacant and rotting, and it still stands today. I thought it was the usual over-embellished unencyclopedic statement that shows up every now and then, but after seeing pictures of Dixie Square Mall, I have to say it does seem apt. Fascinating, in fact. I'd love to do a tour of the mall one day to see more of it.

I also came across a site called MallHistory (Designed for Internet Explorer and Microsoft Word 2000 or higher). I have to say it renders a lot like the recent Year Zero tie-in websites, but without needing images. Nice to see where we've come since the mid nineties. (Yes, I too am to blame for some of the HTML horrors we lived through). The coolest thing though, is the amount of detail the website's contributors have put into documenting what the malls used to be and what they have become. There are some beautiful pictures of Hampton Towne Centre and some interesting stories of the rise, fall, and fallow of these great commercial spaces.
